Professor Michael G. Bowman was elected by the judges of the Sacramento County Superior Court as Assistant Presiding Judge. Judge Bowman’s term began on January 1, 2020 and will continue through December 31, 2021.
Governor Jerry Brown appointed Judge Bowman to the Superior Court on December 27, 2013. Since his appointment, he has held a variety of assignments including criminal and civil trial courts. He is currently the supervising judge of the court’s Criminal Division, serves as chair to the Criminal Law Committee and is a member of the Court’s Executive Committee and Security Committee.
Prior to his appointment to the bench, he prosecuted criminal cases as a Deputy District Attorney and then ran a private criminal defense firm for 18 years with cases ranging from DUIs to death penalty.
Judge Bowman earned his JD degree from McGeorge School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Cal Poly Pomona.
He has been a faculty member at Lincoln Law School, teaching Community Property, since 2014.
